This is an incredible figure. One in 49 children in New Jersey has a form of autism. In the country overall, it is one in 88. The figures come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“The national numbers, including and especially in my home state of New Jersey, are shocking,”said U.S. Rep. Chris Smith. He authored the Combating Autism Reauthorization Act.“Each one of these statistics represents real children and real families who struggle and need our help and assistance.”

In the nation one in 54 boys has a form of the disability. In New Jersey it is one in 29.  “Prevention, treatment and ultimately a cure for this developmental disability must be our highest priority.  We need to bring a ‘Manhattan Project’ type focus to this essential life saving work.  Delay is not an option,” Smith said. He's right these numbers are alarming for us and the nation. We have to double our efforts.

We need to get behind Congressman Smith on this.
